Aestheticare offers PRP for the most common type of hair loss, Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA), also known as Male & Female Pattern Hair Loss.

WHAT IS AGA? HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE IT?
AGA affects about 70% of men and 40% of females. It is caused by hormonal influence and genetics.
AGA generally begins with a receding hairline and thinning crown.
Comprehensive exam and, sometimes, investigations as indicated to determine whether your hair loss is amenable to Biological Growth Factor Injections (PRP).

Other common causes of hair loss to rule out
Illness or Health Condition - Hormonal changes (i.e., diabetes, low thyroid activity), nutritional deficiency, major rapid weight loss, stress, cancer, autoimmune disease, other recent major illness, surgery or chemotherapy can cause temporary hair loss. In many cases, the hair will regrow if the health condition is identified and can be corrected. Trauma - Scar tissue caused by physical injury (including some
hair styling techniques which damage hair), burns, or cosmetic surgery can interfere with hair growth by damaging hair follicles which potentially leads to permanent hair loss.

WHAT IS PRP?
PRP involves drawing your own blood and processing it in a special machine to extract and concentrate your own growth factors before injection into target sites. Initial trials and efficacy were demonstrated in musculoskeletal medicine and dentistry.
Studies now support use of PRP to stimulate hair follicles to better maintain the active growth phase 1.2.3 and it is now indicated for areas of hair loss affected in the last 5 years. Hair loss predating 5 years is less likely to respond.
Since the autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma is processed from your own blood, an allergic reaction or rejection is unlikely.

TREATMENT REGIMEN:
A typical treatment program is made up of three to five treatments once a month. Maintenance treatment every 3 to 6 months is recommended for optimal hair preservation. Continued maintenance PRP can slow down hair follicle miniaturization and help prevent more thinning which, for most of us, is a normal part of maturation.
One entire treatment session takes 45-60 minutes. There is no down time so that you can return to normal activities right away.
Please note that you must be well hydrated and drink at least 2 cups of water 2 hours prior to PRP.

THE RESULTS:
Results are generally seen in 3 to 6 months but results vary with each individual.

For best results, PRP adjunctive topical and sometimes oral treatment will be recommended. Surgery is a last resort for individuals who will not respond to these measures.

As with PRP, the aforementioned adjunctive treatments are not indicated for hair loss of greater than 5 years duration.
